We here at Icrontic like to deliver choice headlines, with relevant and engaging analyses of the topic at hand. We like to post news pieces that are interesting, comprehensive and insightful. Today, however, the internet is nothing more than a glut of financial announcements, three paragraph blurbs and other similar shenanigans.

What is a technical site to do when their desired level of <em>editorial excellence</em> can't be achieved? It goes along with the flow!

With that said, first on our agenda today is the report from Zune users that the newest firmware revision is draining battery lives faster than usual. Users report that the device is failing to go into hibernation mode.

For an absurd $956, unlocked iPhones are now available in France. If users choose not to use the iPhone on Orange's network, a <s>penalty</s> surcharge of $100 will be added.

Research firm iSuppli has released its 2007 year-end review of the semiconductor industry. In the rankings, Intel and Sony have both advanced, but AMD has tanked by more than 22% over last year. It's a dry read, but pretty telling about the overall industry.

From the stupidest-war-on-the-consumer-market department comes the news that the HD-DVD camp has flogged over 750,000 players to date. In five months, HD-DVD has seen a 400% growth in the number of players sold, which is pretty good. When you remove the PS3 from the equation, which was not as significant as Sony was saying, Blu-Ray progress has been comparable.

Novell v. SCO is going to trial anyhow, it seems. Novell has successfully lifted the protection Chapter 11 gives to claimants like SCO. Crush, kill, DESTROY!
