Max disk size for Win2k Server OS
HW_Hack

After some googling and a search here - I'm surprised I can't get the low down on this.
We have a Win2k server at our school -- I dropped in a 320GB IDE disk in -- the BIOS indicates the presence of a 320GB drive (this is a HP workstation vintage 2004) -- but Win2k shows only about 131GB .... a size that does show up in some searches.
Now I do have two 250GB drives in this system running in a RAID 1 config off of a PCI RAID controller card
so at this point it seems like I need some type of PCI IDE controller card to use this disk. The primary use of the 320GB is to do system back-ups to.
Thanks for your help

DOH !
Good question - I'll have to check next week.
Dumb question ---- I do have a MS Win2K service Pak 4 CDROM ... so is that disk relevant for both Win2k clients and servers ?
What you're looking for is called BigLBA. Even Windows XP pre-SP1 had a 128gb limit on single volume size.
There is a reg fix if you already have SP4 and it's still not working:
Anyways, though - if I remember correctly, SP3 or SP4 fixed this.
Yep I had installed Service Pk4 - but had to edit the Registry. Again thanks for offering so complete a response including the registry input.
The server should do a scheduled backup tonight ... one less thing on my plate. You guys - gals rock.
