Ubuntu Freezing

Ubuntu has been freezing randomly and I believe the problem began when my install of Java Console 6 documentation went haywire. Now every time I have to install updates I must manually type [no] and return = because Java6.doc install has failed blah blah blah. Now; usually at the exact moment I access an application on the web or upload my comment to a thread for example, Ubuntu freezes.
Any ideas? Or should I just head over to Ubuntu Forums or do some Googling:bigggrin::wink:

...any scans from within the terminal for integrity etc that can be performed for a situation like this?

Were you installing Java through apt?

Through Synaptic Package Manager... and everything was fine until Java documentation dependency would not install. Now I am asked to enter no to abort and press return? This will happen every time now that I try to install anything and/or upgrade.

Have you tried marking Java Console for removal, removing it, and then installing it again?

:dunce: ...nope:bigggrin: Thanks drasnor, I will give that a try and let you know. Consequently do you believe that is the the source of the freezing? I cannot find any other obvious problems.

I think it's possible. A lot of packages depend on Java so having a broken Java install could crash them and possibly X as well.

I found that the problem was actually related to Beryl and Firefox(at times heavily Java dependent!?) conflicting and causing the freezing. I believe that my Vid Card is not very Beryl friendly either; after doing some googling.
    Thanks for the help drasnor:cheers:
