Running very slow, shutting down randomly, etc.

Hey guys. I haven't been on here since 'twas Short-Media, but I got such great help then I thought I'd come back for more. Now my fiancee's computer has some problems and I don't know what they are. It's an Acer Aspire 3620 running Windows XP, and here are what she says are the symptoms:

Runs VERY slowly
Shuts down randomly
If she leaves it on for several hours, she must restart the PC to use the internet
freezes up sometimes
As of today, the mouse touchpad won't work at all
On its own the PC did sort of a system restore ( i guess?), deleted all her itunes songs and changed her background.

Please observe the following while we work:
If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't continue, we don't want to start all over again!
Understand that cleaning your computer can sometimes take multiple passes/posts, and it's important to follow the steps in the order that I give them including re-running scans if needed. :Reconfigure Windows XP to show hidden files:
To enable the viewing of Hidden files follow these steps:

• Close all programs so that you are at your desktop.
• Double-click on the My Computer icon.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• After the new window appears select the View tab.
• Put a checkmark in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
• Under the Hidden files and folders section select the radio button labeled Show hidden files and folders.
• Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
• Remove the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
• Press the Apply button and then the OK button and shutdown My Computer.
• Now your computer is configured to show all hidden files.

:move hijackthis
I see you are using HJT from a location where it will not work properly . Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of its own. When HJT fixes anything, it makes backups of the original files in the folder it is in. For this reason it cannot be run from where it is now because the backups will be deleted. Having the backups could be VITAL to restoring your system if something went wrong in the FIX process!
The easiest way to do this is to uninstall HJT and then to reinstall it
To uninstall Hijackthis go to add/remove programs and uninstall

To install Click here to download HJTsetup.exe
* Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
* Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
* By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
* Continue to click Next(three times) in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue.
* Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
* Then you will need to click on install
* At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
* Click on the Do a system scan and save a log file button. It will scan and then notepad will open up
* Click file>save as and save it to your desktop
* Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
* Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
* DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
