Logitech Z-680's and Z-5300's.

edited November 2003 in Hardware
The sub on my Z-560's is deffinetly done for, the sattellites aren't sounding like they used to anymore either. I bought the set from Best Buy and was planning on getting the Z-680's to replace them. Unfortunately BB decided to stop carrying them and I can't find them in IL, WIS, or AZ. I would love to get the Klipsch Ultra's but can't justify spending the cash. The Z-5300's seem to make the most sense. Anyone have any experience with them? If so, what are your thoughts? I'll listen to them another time before I make my decision, but if they aren't great I might just get the Z-680's from Newegg. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks-DaK

Hahah thanks. I'm rather new here, didn't know if that was a cliche that wasn't allowed here. Glad to know it's appreciated :vimp:.

First of all; where did you get that avatar?

Second; nothing beats the z680s. That is, unless you want to spend hundreds more.

From a member at another forum I frequent. (I should put a watermark or something on it :p)

Anyone know if their local BB has any Z-680's in stock. I have a warranty from my Z-560s and would just switch them out more or less. They're next to impossible to find.

YOu sure you can't get them online? Or have the people at BB help you find a set (hahaha)?

If they are under warranty you might contact Logitech and see about RMA'ing the 560's directly to them.
Don't sweat having to ship the set back if they handle customer returns like they do with RMA through a store, all they have a store send in is the power cable.

I think I might have to get me some 680s and a decent sound card sometime soon...I used to be a big audio buff, but right now, I'm running off my onboard sound (Cwave media or something) on my FPS2000 (digital spdif capable but I dont have the sound card for it) with the rear channel speakers not working cause creative labs wont sell me the damn remote control that for some reason is like tied directly into the system so if the control for the back speakers to adjust balance doesnt work, the speakers are off :( I need a good replacement, the 680s look pretty badass

and I could hook my digital out from my DVD player into it...mmmm Dolby Digital

The 560s are under warranty for 2 years. I had a broken sub on my pair. I called them and I all I had to send back was the control console and I got a whole new set. So I still have 4 good satalite speakers. In fact I am still using my fold pair so I have a good set yet. Great customer service!

If the speakers are anything like their steeringwheels then you have nothing to worry about. I've read many review about the speakers and they're thought to be truly great. None of the stores in my areas have any so i haven't been able to listen to them myself.

BTW Nightshade said in another thread that he was bying them. I wonder if he's gotten them yet. If so hope he comments on them.
Am i the only one who will be reading this thread many times if only to see daks avatar. :wow: It's about time i get one for myself.

They should have arrived yesterday at the latest and still haven't, though I am starting to regret it, as going by all sources, the MegaWorks 550 set have tighter bass and better sound. Downside of them is no decoder and the bass is not as powerful, but that probably wouldn't bother most people. Soon the Gigaworks are supposed to be released, and they are even better than the megaworks 550 and they are available in 7.1 and 5.1, which should put them well above the Logitechs as in most reviews the 550's came out better than the Klipsch Ultras and Logitechs.

Oh, and the Pure Digital (VideoLogic) DigiTheatre DTS system still seems to own everything (though you can only get 2.1 rather than 5.1 unless you have nForce audio).

No point me looking them up as US prices are going to be completely different from UK prices (I'm not just refering to currency conversion).

But, having a quick look -

    Megaworks 550 - $180

Cant find any of the others at decent prices through Google and I dont know any decent US stores (suprisingly).

I was thinking about ordering this set...not bad for $180, CSW is a pretty reputable brand....even tho they're now owned by Creative Labs, they still make their owns speakers and they a lot better than those speakers "Creative Brand" speakers that sell in retail outlets now instead of the Creative branded CSW speakers like they used to :( . What do you guys think:

right now I have the Cambridge SoundWorks FPS2000 Digital set, they sound awesome, but, as I mentioned before, after 4 years of hard usage, the controller has broken and the rear channels are disabled because of that

    Why thank you :D.

Let me explain my situation a little more. I'm a big fan of BB warranties, I get them with all my big price purchases. Basically my plan was to keep the 560's for a year or so and then upgrade to whatever is available at that time. This plan was working out well except for the fact that the nearest BB is an hour away from my school and my car was at home. So, when I got home for Thanksgiving break to try to pick up a set of 680's I was stumped. BB stopped carrying the 680's and dropped their price from $399 to $199. In a matter of days all of them seemed to dissapear. They're no longer online and as I mentioned I couldn't find a set in 3 different states around certain areas.

When I bring back my 560's from school for Christmas break I'll probably just wind up taking them to BB and try to convince them that the Klipsch Ultra's are the closest thing to the specs of the 560's that they carry. I doubt this will work, but it's worth a shot. At that point I'll just get a store credit for the full purchase price of the 560's and I'll use that for Christmas presents.

I'm a real big fan of the 680's, have been for quite sometime. The reason I don't want to buy from Newegg for instance is the fact that I can't just bring them back and get my money back in a year or so. As dishonest as it may sound, a college kid has to do what he has to do .

I also tryed pricematching the 680's to Circuit City and the lovely young lady would have done it had it not been for the manager . I'll probably try that one more time as well.

And that's my life story, thanks for the input. When are the Gigaworks coming out?

The Creative GigaWorks S750 speakers will be available in late October for an estimated street price of US$499.99. For those with budget in mind, the 7.1 Creative Inspire® T7700 speakers are immediately available at only US$149.99

    And some other info: http://uk.europe.creative.com/press/detail.asp?ref=1926&prcoun=16

Though they are going to be releasing a 5.1 version of it too. It will have tweeters too allowing it to have alot better frequency response, unlike the single driver systems.

I think I'm still going to wind up with the 680's. BTW I absolutely hate Circuit City. I've come to that conclusion today, absolutely without a doubt the worst store I've ever shopped at. Gonna give Corporate a call Monday.
