Extended warranties ROCK!

Bought my XBox 360 in Jan 07 with my XMas $$$, paid an extra $59.99 for the 2 yr extended warranty..

Started playing Halo 3 and kept getting E 68 Hard Drive errors.

At first a simple reboot would clear the problem. Then things got much more personal!

I had Halo 3 saved up until just after killing Truth, and BAM! Start up console one day and my game is gone!

So I blew the dust bunnies out of the console, reseated the HD, and started over. This time I got about 2 full missions in, and lost the game again.

Packed everything in the original box, and took it back to Best Buy. The clerk there couldn't generate the E 68 Error, but we offered to take the console home and take a picture it, to prove it was crapping out. He OKed my return.

The happy ending is that I got the Halo 3 Limited Edition version (same as the basic, 'cept for a Halo paint job on the case, a rechargeable battery pack for the #1 controller, and a free silver level XBox live subscription) for the same price I paid for the basic version.

My fiance liked the basic white and green XBox, of course I like the Halo one... she is only a girl tho..:bigggrin:

So how's MS tech support and return policy? Bought an Elite a month ago but the climate here is pretty hot and humid. Am I gonna see any rings of death or have they fixed that with the newer ones?

Doesn't silver come free anyway? I'm not really sure just thought I'd ask since I'm not a 360 person (yet).

Glad to see it worked out for you. :)

    EDIT:

From what I've heard they've done a lot to improve the hardware in newer models so you shouldn't see any rings unless you're doing something stupid with the console and/or power brick. As far as MS goes, I've read mostly good things on the internet but irl it's taking them forever to return my friend's 360. He's been without his xbox for over a month now and is starting to have withdrawal symptoms... :aol:

    Hawk,

The extented warranty here was a Best Buy product, which I paid and extra $29.99 to have it extended an extra year ( One year left on original warranty + the year I added.) MS tech never had anything to do with it.

Some might think this a waste of $$. But its already paid for itself with this return alone...

    Gr8 -

Not sure about the Silver Level XBox access either, never played online. I just haven't made that leap, still like my PC for online play...

    Silver is free.

MS tech support related to the XBox has been great for what I've dealt with.

They should have fixed most of the RROD issues, so I wouldn't worry too much Blackhawk. If you do experience it within three years, though, you're covered.
