Registry, Malware and hardware issues (All related)
Hi, first time posting here and hope anyone can give me steps to fix the following problems as I would much appreciate it. My computer is a Dell Inspiron 8600 laptop.
I am currently running Zone Alarm Fire Wall, AVG Anti Virus (Free Addition), and regularly use Ad-aware 2007 and occasionally RegSeeker.
Recently while running Ad-Aware it crashed while scanning the registry. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times but it still crashes at random points usual in the registry scan. I also use RegSeeker and think I might have accidentally altered the registry in a negative way resulting in these Ad-Aware crashes.
On top of Ad-Aware malfunctioning, my CD/RW DVD Rom has also been malfunctioning in that it will no longer read or burn cd's nor read dvd's. I have taken the appropriate steps to try and fix this issue by reinstalling drivers and running hardware malfunction tests through windows. All these tests show that the hardware has no physical problems. Also upon computer start up, it will freeze in the final moments unless I physically remove my CD Rom from my laptop. My guess is that RegSeeker may have altered something in the registry to make the hardware malfunction. I am not sure and hope anyone here can help!
