Shrink an AVI file

Hey long time no post,

Having some problems with AVI files, when I convert from a VOB file. They're all a bit too big.

I want a two hour video to be around 600MB, but at the moment a 5 minute video is taking up over a gigabyte. Any ideas on how to shrink the file? I don't care that much that video quality gets poorer.

There are newer versions of these programs out, but it's still accurate as a guide.

Thanks Thrax, looks like a lot of reading but it's what I was after. I'll have a read through that tomorrow.

My program-o-choice is AutoGK, based off of Gordian Knot. You can specify a max size for your rips, and it will adjust quality based off of it.
