While Stanford's Folding@Home is in the limelight due to some great PR because of Sony and friends, the granddaddy of all distributed computing projects is still kickin', but only barely. They recently sent out emails to current and former users begging for some sweet CPU time, some tender loving affection, and yeah... some cold hard cash.

Although we are pleased with the success of last winter's funding drive, and grateful for the generosity of our donors, we are still operating with minimal funds. These budget constraints have forced us down to less than 3 full time employees.

I'm not sure if "less than 3" means 2 or 1, but either way things are looking grim for the old search for ET. With a new "multi-beam" client, they're looking to get some serious science done, and perhaps unlock the doors to the mysteries of the wider universe.

I will support them 100% AFTER we cure cancer, Parkinson's, and Alzheimer's. It is a shame that we cannot all work together and share CPU's but as Connor MacLeod said... "There can be only one!"
