I am running Vista and Office 2000. Every time I try to open a Word file, Vista wants to do a virus scan and this takes forever. How do I shut this off?

The virus scan is different than the verification thing. Once the file opens for the first time, Vista no longer tries to verify the contents but it does scan it for viruses. I just want the file open when I click on it. Is that too much to ask?

i'm probably guilty of doing it at one point, but you could probably have killed 3 similar birds with one stone.

Yet still no useful comment. You guys are usually all over this stuff.

Office isn't aware of any virus scanners by itself, so it's your virus scanner doing this. Do you have norton/symantec?

The office plugin in Norton is causing it. Use Avast or AVG or something.
