GTA: SA - problem with frame-rate in game

Hi all, just wondering if anyone could help with a problem. I've had GTA: SA for about a year but it hasn't been installed for around 6 months. I decided to give it another go yesterday now that I have a PS2 replica gamepad.

It runs beautifully, except for indoor scenes. Every time you enter a building, the frame-rate massively increases. You still have control but at the speed it changes to, it isn't really controllable. I have tried enabling the frame-rate limiter and I've fiddled with various in-game settings but to no avail.

Since it's uninstallation 6 months ago, I've had my graphics card, motherboard and processor upgraded, so I'm guessing it's something to do with this. My graphics drivers are the latest.

Anyone know why it's doing this? I'll post more info tonight if required.

Problem solved. Did a little browsing and apparently, the GTA series have a problem with the newer AMD Athlon processors.

I just set up the game to run with one processor and it runs like a dream. I'm sure it should be the other way around.

A lot of old games freak out on dual core CPUs, be it Intel or AMD. For example, you can cheat in the MMO Planetside by having dual-core: Often it'll make you run, jump and fire at quadruple rate. Obviously this gives an advantage. :)

There's a much much easier fix, it's the AMD Dual core async/sync driver. It's a simple installation that adds one driver, which synchronizes the 1000ms updates from each processor instead of allowing them to work differently. I needed it for BF2.
