ps3 wont work with surround sound

just got PS3..trying to connect it to surround sound thru sony receiver via HDMI cable but it won't work..anyone know why/how get it to work?

    Did you run through all the setup dialogs and tell it to route the sound through HDMI, and then select the codecs your receiver's prepared to handle?

    Video settings; tell it to run video through HDMI; it will ask you if you want to set up audio after that; say yes, tell it to run audio through HDMI, and tell it what formats your receiver can handle. The end.

    Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1, AAC, and four variants of linear PCM

    oh ok ..which part of the ps3 options do you tell it the format? and the video is working (i can see it) just sound isn't working thru SS..via hdmi

    I already told you. If you set the video options, it'll ask you if you want to set the audio options; if you just want to set the audio, go to set the audio options.
