Came back from vacation to find a bios fix for my nforce utility and it works fine now ...except it still reports the wrong core voltage but I can live with that til a fix.

http://fae.abit.com.tw/eng/download/bios/nf7-s2.htm

Fixed the issue that Duron 1.2G and 1.3G will not boot using BIOS version 19.
Add nVidia System Utility support. Please download the nvsuoem.ini file and install nVidia System Utility with this ini file (put the ini file in the directory where the setup up file for nVidia System Utility is located). http://fae.abit.com.tw/download/bios/nf7-s_2.0/nvsuoem.ini
Enhanced compatibility with certain WD hard disk.
BIOS compile date: 11/21/2003.

What all can the nForce utility change? I'm wondering if it's worth the BIOS flash.

Me too. One of the MSI utils I got tells me when BIOS updates are available, and lets me build a flashing floppy then reboots to floppy, flashes, reboots, I reset what I still need custom, adn typically things work better. One thing I DO like is automated falshing with choice as to whether or not to flash. When Abit does that, will more seriously consider a more immediate mobo switch from my MSI KT4VL older mobo.

I used flashmenu and it reboots afterwards ...real simple.
I copied nvsuoem.ini into the setup folder and repaired the utility ...then started the program and got this!

It's actually pretty sad that nVIDIA can't get it right while third party software works just fine...

    btw: modified bios here.

I edited the pic ...second button from bottom-left so far does absolutely nothing.

Yes it does. That's the "advance view page" and in order to get there you have to edit "nvsuoem.ini " before installation. Replace the 0 with a 1 next to the "AdvanceView" entry for your board. Some of the functions don't work though...

yeah ...well when i brought up the advanced screen it showed the same multiplier as yours which in my case was wrong ...I changed one line and it then showed the correct multiplier so you may need to change it also. the default multi seems to be 11x.
    cpumultiplier=0 to cpumultiplier=1

    Good find simon!
Q: the only "nvsystemutility" file I have is .exe, is yours .ini? if so, where did you find it? TIA

sorry ...you have to generate it with the save as key ...it's the 8th key in the lower left corner at the end.

Hmm...this might actually fix the high vcore problem on these boards. As soon as i use more than 2 volt, the multi goes up by itself without that i'm touching it in the bios.

yeah mine seems to change on it's own at times also ...I just keep resetting the ratio back to 6/6
