Vista problems.

My new laptop came with Vista Home with a bunch of unnecessary Toshiba utilities so instead of taking the time to uninstall each one, I installed XP on it since I'm not a fan of Vista. I guess I should have checked before but there are almost no drivers for XP for any of the hardware in this machine. So I reinstalled Vista Ultimate and I hate it. It's a Toshiba Satellite P205-S6277 and I went on Toshiba's website but they only provide Vista drivers. I also went to manufacturer websites for each part to find drivers and couldn't find any for XP. So my first question is: Is it possible at all to run XP on this machine, are there drivers available anywhere for this hardware. Second, if there are, where can I find them.

The only driver I found for both XP and Vista was the nVidia 7600 and the touchpad. I found the particular parts in this model by looking at the Vista drivers available on Toshiba's website and then going to each manufacturer's site for XP drivers.

It's possible to run XP on any machine, you just need to be good at hunting for drivers. That means knowing where to get Realtek vs. ADI, Ricoh vs. Texas Instruments, Marvell Yukon vs. Realtek, etc.

It's going to be a struggle.

I never knew about that. Thanks Thrax. I see it only works for devices on the PCI bus though. Would my wifi and stuff be on PCI, because I would think it would be USB or some other specialized port. I know for a fact that the included webcam is USB, though it's internal. Anyway, downloading the prog so I can atleast get everything on PCI.

I couldn't get Unknown Devices to work on my PC, so I looked for other programs and I found Everest which had a handy output to txt/html tool. I want to post it but I'm looking through it to make sure it doesn't contain any unique info about my PC... Coming in a few minutes.

Ok thanks Thrax. I think that covers everything except the HD Realtek Sound which I can't find. Can anyone think of anything I may be forgetting before I install XP?

WTF how are you finding this? I googled, checked manufacturer websites, even used the links that Everest gave me and couldn't find anything. Anyway, I just got XP installed so if this driver works, everything is good. Thanks a lot thrax.

Actually I even think Nvidia's video graphics installer will still install that device.
