PC Problem Please Help

edited January 2008 in Hardware
Well I'm trying to reassemble my old PC. There is something odd. I have my motherboard, my power supply and my memmory in. I turned the power on, and it goes through, the fans turn on and everything. Then I put in my GFX card and turn it on, it powers up for 1 second then turns off. Is my GFX the problem or Motherboard.

Take the motherboard out of the case and run it on a piece of cardboard. IF that fails, try another power supply.

I tried running it with all the PCI cards and the Harddrive + DVD/CD Drives plugged in, it works, but when I plug in the gfx card it turns off.

"run it on a piece of cardboard."

What do you mean by that can you specify?

I mean, put the motherboard on a piece of cardboard outside of the case.

Turning on doesn't mean it's working.
