Backup files from XP not working on vista?

edited January 2008 in Science & Tech
I just installed vista, everything is working great

when I ran Acronis True image to retrieve all my music off a backup that I had made, it worked, and put all the music in my "music" folder....

but it wont let me access any of the files, it says that I don't have permission. So I tried deleting the files and it says I don't have permission. Then i went to the file properties and then security and set me as the owner and permission to the file, and I still cant access or delete the files, not even from safe mode...

this is pretty upsetting,
can anyone help me here?

It seems like the usernames might be different I guess. I don't study windows too much anymore...

well i ran true image again and this time restored them to a different location, but I also went into custom settings and found a setting saying "keep file security settings" this time I turned that off, and the new restored files work fine......

but the old files that I don't have permission to, I still cannot delete, and I don't really want them there if they are unusable lol.

    man that sux... lol

I've had a similar thing happen before, but for different reasons. The way I got around it to delete those files was to boot up with a live linux cd. Mount the harddrive and deleted the files. That works most of the time. The other way was to install cygwin into windows chmod the files you are trying to delete and remove them.

well that just seemed a little to confusing for me,
I mean the Linux way didn't sound to hard, but that second way did....

Anyways, I got frustrated and just reinstalled vista again. I wont make that mistake will restoring files again.:D
