IMAP and sent items

Currently running an e-mail account using IMAP, works great for most things, however, sent items seem a little buggy...
I sent an item last week, from Outlook, however, it doesn't appear in the sent items - a folder I defined in the account settings which is on the IMAP tree - not Outlook Personal Folders. However, if I go on to the 'webmail' for the IMAP account I can see the e-mail in the sent folder.
Most sent items are fine and synchronise with outlook - just the odd few which do not - does anyone have any ideas?
(Also on very rare occasions it seems there are no record of sent items - in either Outlook or Webmail - when they have been sent to personal addresses etc - so you can see that they have indeed 'sent'!)
