I played around with it when it first got started, but haven't done much since... It was still early beta so you couldn't do much more than make some bricks and houses and such...

I played in the first tale (it's in tale 3 now) and it was alot different...one of the biggest changes is "compounds". Basically a big house to put your stuff in. Also, they added a level system. So in order to level up you need to finish tests...such as building an obelisk, creating a pyrotechnic show, finding cicadas (little buzzing animals hidden in the desert), doing a pilgramage, getting married. It's a very broad game for being 100% violence free...

You can download the trial, which gives you 24 hours of play time to test it out.

    or

http://wiki.atitd.net/tale3 <- it has everything documented about the game and quite a few guides to get you started.

I just had a quick go on this, seems quite cool - I'm interested in economics within games, so this would match that perfectly :) Don't really have the time to start paying for it atm :(

There really isn't much in the way of "currency". There is how ever alot of player to player bartering. Price comparisons, as well as alot of trades go through a player run guild called "The Goods" which "sells" almost every item in the game for goods of equal or lesser value...left over "currency" is saved and can be used during later trades with "The Goods".

Now on that I will have to disagree. With my experince in playing the game (Tale3), a lot of the residents seem to be very "selfish" and snobby. Oh, they'll help you, and there's a lot that are nice, but still, there's also a lot who only care about leveling in the game and will put you down. It says right in the ATITD page (well, part of it) that there are weapons in the game: your words. Most powerful weapons out there. When I had just gotten back on, I was suddenly accused by <unnamed resident> that I had called (oh btw, he is a very well known resident, if you live in 7Lakes) his wife a b*tch, and was very mad at me, when I had done nothing of the sort. He didn't seem to care if it was actually me that did it, or if someone else got onto my account. His wife was also upset at me, which totaly confused me because I had done nothing of the sort. After about a week of playing, (oh, and by now, other residents were getting involved, including a Demi-Pharoh, and if you know her, I'd like to thank Gemstar for supporting me) I just decided to quit.

Moral of the story: There are many who play, and there are many who are good, but the community is definitely NOT like the "everyone helps eachother, team building and supportive" community that you may read about. It's those power hungry, snobby residents that only care about what flavours of root you can get out of the ground that can completely ruin the game for you. My advice: don't play unless you want to take your chances in that mess of a society.
