Unbearable lag, please help

edited January 2008 in Hardware
I have never had any trouble before, but a few days ago, i rebooted and the computer was just lagging its a$$ off. ive done virus/spyware scans, nothing, done the CCcleaner, and no better

Heres what i got

HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop
Windows XP Media Center Edition, service pack 2
2gb RAM
1.6ghz Dual Core intel processor
80gb drive - 39.8 free
160gb external drive

only 74 processes running, none seem to be out of the normal

lags especially in mozilla, and aim

any clue why its running like a POS?

Congratulations you win, for running just about every single program imaginable.

First I see you are using media center edition. If you aren't using it as a media center you should go through and turn off as much of that bloat as you can.

Second, trend micro. Looks like you are using the full security suite. That will slow down your computer significantly. Personally I'd ditch it entirely and just get AVG Free's anti-virus software, and only the anti-virus program. All the rest of that active scanning, firewall, crap is a waste of space, especially in those all-in-one suites.

You are running several instant messenger clients. Ditch all of the individual ones and get an all in one client like Pidgin or Trillian.

Go into your Startup programs and I would imagine you have a lot of crap for your HP printers, you can get rid of all of the auto loading hp software.

I have no idea what Logitec Desktop Manager does, but I'm guessing not needed.

It's for the Logictech wireless suite. It lets you manage keyloads and crap like that. Useless unless you use alternate configurations for their keyboards.

got my processes down to about 47, basically down to the bare essentials

but the internet (i use mozilla) is still real laggy
i go to type in a form, like this one, and it will take 5 seconds to register everything that i typed, response time for stuff is real slow

i know its not the internet, cause the other computer in my house runs perfectly fine. ive done everything from spybot my payed virus program.

    any other ideas?!

With 81 processes, I guarantee you it's not running perfectly. Maybe it's acceptable to you. Maybe you don't put a great strain on your PC, but anything over 40 with things you want to do currently running is absurd.
