Ok. My once vaulted Xclio ACS 380 is now more of a burden than it was a blessing. I need a new case. I need a very specific case design. Remember the old desktop computers? That horizontal design? Yeah. I need me one of them. My Cooler Master Gemini2, countless fans, mods and other non-standard equipment have taken their toll on my case, and my board. I need something that will hold a crapton of hard drives 6-10, but I only need one optical device. I've seen Mountain mods, but they want an outrageous fee for something that's not even 1/10th the work or parts. I want something sturdy so I was looking into a 4u case. I measured my Gemini 2 and all the tallest things I've got and I'm looking at 4 1/6th inches MINIMUM CLEARANCE because I can just cut holes for my fans and garbage. I'm working with a full-ATX board, and a slightly oversized power supply.

Steel preferred, but I'd rather have your insight. Am I better off using my journeyman fabrication skills and making something myself, or if not, could you guys recommend a place that won't rip a broke fella off?

You might be better off looking at server case specialists. Try browsing through rackmountpro.com to see what's out there in 4U horizontal cases.

This could hold quite a few drives. Not 10, but close to it. Is it out of your price range?
