The next Battlefield game looks like TF2

EA Games and DiCE have opened the doors on the website for the next game in the Battlefield universe.

Normally when you think Battlefield you think World War 2 or wintry futurescape, hard metal machinery and realistic combat. But it seems that DiCE have taken a page from Valve's playbook and gone Looney Tunes for the next iteration of the venerable franchise.

The other important bit: The game will be free. EA may be experimenting with an ad-supported gaming model, but then again a behemoth like EA doesn't jump into a paradigm-changing thing like this without pretty much knowing they'll come out richer at the other end.

Look for a release in the "summer of 2008."
