Keyboard and Mouse die during XP repair installation

Background:
I recently upgraded my motherboard and CPU. I was unable to figure out how to get Windows to recognize the two-disc RAID that I was previously using. After trying everything that I could, I admitted defeat and turned off RAID.

Windows installed just fine on the SATA drive. Once I got all of my critical applications installed, I decided to install Norton Ghost 2003 to create a backup image.

Ghost rebooted the machine and crashed during image creation. With the machine fully locked up, I had to reboot. The machine was then locked into a cycle of trying to restart the Ghost application unsuccessfully. In an attempt to fix this problem, I popped the XP SP2 disc in and began a repair install. This went fine until the windows conducted the first installation reboot. Once again, Ghost tried to take over during the boot.

Next, I used the XP SP2 to open up the recovery console. I used the fixMBR command and rebooted. This took care of my ghost problem. Unfortunately, the repair installation starts back up. During the drivers and hardware installation portion, Windows pops up with the warning window saying driver is not certified. I move the mouse to the button saying "continue anyway" only to find that my keyboard and mouse are no longer responding. Rebooting puts me right back to this problem.

I've got a few ideas that don't sound very appealing. Does anyone else have a suggestion that might get this box back to where I started??

I'm available by most IM's listed in my profile.

Your best bet is to try installing with a PS/2 keyboard and mouse.

Contact your computer or motherboard manufacturer to inquire about possible upgrades to the computer BIOS. For information about how to contact computer hardware manufacturers.
What type of keyboard/mouse are you using?Wirless, usb, etc?

I had the same problem with a set of cordless USB mouse + keyboard. It's fine until XP asks you to agree to the license by pressing F8, when I press F8 - zip, nada, no response. So I just plugged in a PS2 set and it worked fine. Once XP was installed and ok, I plugged my cordless KB+M and installed the software for it. Even without the software it picked it up immediately. A computer has a mind of it's own. Just connect one wrong item that scratches the system up in anyway and it will let you know by simply disabling the device.
It has nothing really to do with updating the bios.
Rather do a fresh install and use 'fdisk' to clear your drive and create a new file system. That is fail proof unless you have faulty hardware.
