Codec Problem?

H guys,

I have just changed my soundcard and I am having problems playing audio though media player and winamp. I can play MP3 fine but I have a large library of uncompressed wav audio which will no longer play. I had installed the K-litecodec pac so I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the pack but that hasn't helped. Im not so sure it is a codec issue as the compressed audio is fine and it is the full quality, uncompressed audio which is giving me problems. I also cannot play CDs. I have also changed my CD drive but I dont think that is the probem. The old soundcard was onboard and I have disabled it in the bios and tried to remove any drivers for it but no success. Can anyone make a sugestion what to try next?

Thanks

Rich

    1. Click the arrow below the Now Playing tab, and then click More Options.
    2. Click the Devices tab, and then double-click Speakers.
    3. In the Audio device to use box, select a different sound card or sound controller.
    4. Your sound card or sound controller is not configured properly. Try changing the audio output device associated with the Player.
    5. have you downloaded a compatable Dvd decoder, codecs

Similar to the AVI and ASF format, WAV is only a file container. Audio content that is compressed with a wide variety of codecs and that is stored in a .wav file can be played back in Windows Media Player if the appropriate codecs are installed on the computer. The most common audio codecs that are used in .wav files include Microsoft Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation (MS ADPCM) and uncompressed Pulse Code Modulation (PCM).

I dont think it is a problem with the sound card configuration as I can play mp3s. The files played previously.

I haven't installed dvd codecs but that shouldn't cause problems with playing cds

Im running Vista and I will check the error message and get back to you. I think it is the standard can not locate codec.
