In 2002, Dell launched a "Kiosk" effort where customers would be able to see the products they wanted to buy in person before ordering online at the store. While the program was moderately successful, Dell is moving their products into retail stores, eliminating the burden and need of brick'n'mortar from Dell.

At its height, the program maintained over 140 stores, however with Best Buy and Wal-Mart in the supply chain, the effort is no longer needed. Dell has said that the workers at the kiosks will obtain severance, and displacement assistance after being laid off.
