Sorry for not folding for the past week but we went away and I really didn't want to leave my machines running while away after 2 PSU related problems in the past couple years. But we are now back home and going back to the old schedule of running while awake.
But the good news is that I convinced my wife to run it on her machine without the optimizations.
We had a good trip as we went to West central Missouri to see my wife's folks and I was a tech slave the entire time. She always enjoys going as we don't get to visit that often and I don't mind working on their stuff while there. We did a beeline straight to Bolivar, Mo. from Round Rock, Tx. Wednesday night to arrive in time to nap before having lunch on turkey day then dinner and stayed through Monday. We decided to take the scenic route home going through Bentonville, Ar. and through Ft. Smith then weaving back and forth across the Ok-Ar line to Texarkana and home through East Texas via US-79 instead of the interstate. If we had more time we would have given Mad Mat a shout on the way since I know he doesn't live very far from Ft. Smith.

I can relate Whenever we go to see the in-laws down in Phoenix, I get put to work. Last time down I hooked up a router for them to share the new cable internet connection, and set them up on a simple file sharing LAN and printer share. They thought that was the greatest thing ever!
Dexter...
For some strange reason If i go visit my brother in law and sister I always end up rebuilding thier pc or replacing ANOTHER cd burner............. Guess whats for Chirstmas for the 3rd year in a row? A new cd burner ( and i am dead serious )
Well that was only the beginning of it. I had started on a new box for my mother-in-law and picked up a Netgear G-54 Router and a card for the new box. They were supposed to have DSL installed the day after Thanksgiving and the plan was to DL all the updates and such for the new machine there as well as network the existing machine and the new one with the DSL. Well the turkeys from the phone company didn't show up and I had to get everything via dial-up (2+ hrs for just SP1). Then to top it off the Router only had a "wizzard" that wanted to connect to the internet first and wouldn't do anything without doing that step first so I couldn't even set it up before leaving. They have a hard time understanding these things and I wanted everything to be plug and go when the phone company showed up today (day after we left) so I got an hardwire router and 100' of cat cable to set them up. This meant I needed to drill holes in the floor, run the cable under the house and install jacks and plugs to get it going. Then I noticed my father-in-law's HDD sounded like crap and feared for it going out so I suggested replacing it with a new one and Yes another fresh install with hours of updates, etc on dial-up. Since I was at it I found that he had 2 USB hubs daisey-chained and recomended installing a card to eliminate one. I managed to get everything working before leaving and then came to the conclusion that his now 3 1/2 year old Gateway's board was starting to fail. So I know I will be invited back soon to build him a new box (especially when he sees how much faster his wife's new XP2600 is than his 750 P-III).
I just got off the phone with them and the phone guy just left after installing the DSL but my mother-in-law was upset that she couldn't use it on her new machine. It turns out the install guy was a total moron and plugged the DSL modem directly into my father-in-law's computer and unhooked his network cable from the router as he didn't know how to hook it up. So I had to walk him through putting it all back together and setting up the DSL on the Router so they could both have it.:banghead:
