iTunes Error

Hey guys. I need some help with iTunes. Yesterday I decided that with the free time I had I would clean up my laptop a little bit. I organized, ran Disc Cleaner, scanned with Spybot, nothing big. Later in the day I tried to open iTunes and it tried to install. Now when I do it, it tells me:

"Error writing to file: C\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesMiniPlayer.dll. Verify that you have access to that directory"

When I go to look at the iTunes folder in Program Files, it says:

"C:\Program Files\iTunes is not accessible. The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."

When I try to uninstall it from Add/Remove, it says:

"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330."

I've looked at some other forums, but haven't found any fixes. And when all else fails, there is always Icrontic Spyware & Virus Removal.

If anyone could help me out, I would much appreciate it. :D

EDIT: I forgot to mention that my speakers are not working either. If I plug in the headphones, it's fine. Just no speakers.

    A belated hello tehmada,

    Those are not necessarily the symptoms of active infection - have any scans actually located that there? We can still check though.

    If you have not yet resolved the problem download HijackThis from Here. Then click on the downloaded file to install HijackThis. After it is installed open HijackThis and select Do a system scan and save logfile. Use copy/paste and post that log back here for review.

    Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your protective software queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. Here are guidelines for using Silent Runners. You can use separate posts here when replying and posting the log files if needed.

    And HJT asked if i wanted to start a new logfile, but when i said yes it just opened up a blank notepad document. I couldn't figure out how to get it to save a log after running the scan, so sorry for the picture version...

    And the other two boxes popped up during the beginning of the scan.

    The HijackThis issue, and maybe the other, relate likely to the need for Admin access there. Right click HijackThis.exe and select "Run As Administrator", agree to the prompts and run the scan again. But I am not seeing anything malicious here so far. Silent Runners shows your iTunes startup file as missing:

    C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe <

    Navigate to that folder and check if the file is there. If it is, then yes, as it is one often altered by file infectors we will change directions here, but check first as a non-malware issue.

    I am not as familiar as I would wish to be with Vista policies, but that folder access error is one more often seen when you are trying to access something on a networked system, and not a folder/file corruption as part of it says. I know little about the use of Perfigo SmartEnforcer software on systems (now Cisco Clean Access), though the steps you did prior to the problem occurring don't suggest it's involvement. Folder sharing issues perhaps, where your user account does not have access (or you running Silent Runners on this account, which also was not able to read the folder info). If you right click on that folder, so you have access to the Properties there? And then the Security tab?

    If not, if you reboot into Safe Mode (at startup tap F8 and select that from the menu) and login in the Administrator account, can you access it that way?

    I can't, and in fact it says that the iTunes folder is empty.

    I managed to make it into a shared folder, but that didn't help me. When i tried to give Full Control to all Users in the Security tab, it finally let me after the first several times giving me an "Error Applying Security" error (this is in normal mode), but i still can't access the folder. Oh yeah, my account is the administrator.

    The logs, along with your errors and what you are experiencing, suggest at least these two folders are either missing files or not accessible there:

    "SynTPEnh" = "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe" [file not found]
    "iTunesHelper" = ""C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunesHelper.exe"" [file not found]

    "file not found" is not always an accurate read of a missing file, but more indicating something did not go as planned when checking for it (including missing). You mention running SpyBot and some disk cleanup, so right now not sure what went wrong or what caused that. Although still no malware indicated let's look from a different aspect here.

    Please do the following steps in the following order (as they apply) to disable SpyBot's TeaTimer, as this will interfere with repairs.

    Right click on the SpyBot Resident icon in the Taskbar (looks like a lock), and click Exit SpyBot-S&D Resident. Next:

    1) Run Spybot-S&D
    2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
    3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
    4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
    5) Restart your computer (important).
    You can re-enable TeaTimer once your system is clean (when all repairs are made).

    Then Download Deckard's System Scanner (dss.exe) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.

    Making sure dss.exe is directly on your desktop, go to Start - Run, and copy/paste the following (then press OK):

    "%userprofile%\desktop\dss.exe" /config

    When the DSS Configuration display opens click the "Check All" button. Next, Under Main Log, uncheck the following:

    System Restore
    Temp Cleanup
    Process Modules

    Then under Options, place a check next to the following:

    Backup Registry Hives

    Don't make any other changes at this time. Then click the "Scan!" button to start the scan.

    Once the scan has completed a textbox will appear - copy/paste those contents back here (main.txt). Also a second text file, extra.txt, will show as minimized in your Task Bar. Maximize/Open this, and copy/paste those contents back here along with the main.txt please. (The logs can also be found in the C:\Deckard\System Scanner folder)

    Edit add - This one is in part the touchpad software - does the touchpad work there?

    "SynTPEnh" = "C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTP\SynTPEnh.exe" [file not found]

    No malware showing in that view either.
    The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable.

    Appears to be what this is. Windows is unable to read the data from the disk due to some disk problem. I have not had an opportunity to do any trial work with Vista, and although I could provide you with some copy/paste step to run chkdsk there, I usually do not recommend procedures to others I have not worked through myself. If you would, post a request in the Icrontic Operating Systems forum and ask that someone with Vista experience assist you in completing that. Post a link back to this thread as well then.
