This is beyond me :/

I just got a 9800SE AIW to test, it's a Hercules.

When i install it, the pc refuse to boot. Not even a half lap from a fan. The leds on the mainboard lights up for half a second (the abit boot-lights) ,then just nothing. As soon as i put back my 9800 everything is peach. I resetted cmos 3 times, drained the power etc. I removed all other peripherals powercables but still no.

Can't be the mainboard bios version either since it should at least power up before checking the bios. The 9800 SE AIW uses the 9700 pcb with the small powerconnector and has the Samsung 3.3 chips. Picture later.

System: (relevant)

NF7-S 2.0
Antec 412 400w psu
3 different cables tried to connect to the Radeon
HIS 9800 Non-Pro
Hercules 9800SE AIW

TIA

Mac

    Wierd...

    No BIOS beep errors?

Hate to ask, but you did connect the extra power lead to the card, right? :)

If it doesn't work in another machine Mack, RMA the sucker. No sense in screwing with it any further if it doesn't work.

If it doesn't work in another machine then just rma it but check the powercable first.

Yup...tried 3 diffferent connectors. Not even a click. I had a feeling like it didn't get enough juice to start if you know what i mean but i got juice enough. How much extra does the tv thing draw?

No other computer within 3 miles to try in. :/

    Thanks!

that happened to me a few times with my sapphire 9800pro128 ...what happened was when i removed the power clip it pulled it forward so that the next time I applied it it didn't make a good enough connection and it sensed that it wasn't plugged in ...when i finally figured it out (didn't I mention the pool of sweat i was in by then?) all I had to do was shove the plastic adapter back a few mm's to expose more of the contacts everything went fine.
I notice that almost each time that I pull on that smaller clip it does the same thing so I just shove it back and it's ok.
So look at the adapter and see if it needs to be shoved a little to get better contact with the pins when applied.
let me know if this helps.

Nope, Mack's got a Hercules 3D Prophet AIW 9800SE, which looks like this (according to his post) :D

Mack, what's the voltage reading on your +5V rail during startup. I only ask because AIW features draw heavily during startup and a PSU with an overloaded or weak +5V rail may prevent the system from starting at all (such as in your case). SFF PC's usually suffer from this, but I don't think it's out of the question for a desktop PC (although I've never heard it happening to a desktop system before).

ok close enough ...the small power adapter is what I was after.
This is similar (apologies for my lack of cropping skills) to what I noticed on mine and why it wasn't making pin connection ...worth looking at anyway

Thanks csimon :) , i will look at that but since i tried several power connectors, and even removed the one that sat on the card from the factory, i doubt that this is the same problem but i will try again off course.

    GNome,

I have a Antec 412 400w psu which is very healthy and i know the psu isn't the problem. Thanks a lot though :)

    Simguy,

Obviously, i can't check the readings from the AIW since it wont boot ;) but on my 9800 NP, it's at 5.02-5.04. At full load it might get down to 4.96-4.98. I also tried it without anything else on connected (more than the fans on the radiator off course). Still a bugger. The only thing i haven't tried is another bios on the mainboard but i don't believe it can be that since it won't even power up. Besides, the 9800 NP works as a charm on that bios.

    Thanks friends :)
