win xp passworded user access

Is there a way I can access files off of a partition with windows xp that has a password protected user outside of its windows installation? I have a password protected installation in cahuits and would like to take files from it through a different windows installation or from some other method. I remember this is easily doable if there is no password, but I think it says it's encrypted when that password is in place. Is there anything to help me out? I did a no no on windows and unleashed hell, and I'm lucky if I get as far as the desktop picture before it crashes, but that is something I don't think I could fix at this point.

Are the files encrypted, or did the user account simply have a password?

Looking into your linked thread, I don't think that can help me. Remember when I said I did a no no? Well let's just pretend windows can't fully boot, in safe mode or regular mode. Let's pretend it gives errors like "This .... is not a valid image file..." ... and bsod's me and restarts. Just remember, I couldn't possibly release such nastiness upon my computer, and yet I did! :arghh:

This maybe? ----> http://www.wikihow.com/Access-Data-of-a-Password-Protected-User-in-Windows-XP-in-Case-the-PC-Fails-to-Boot Seems time consuming for a "per file" basis

Attach the hard drive in an external enclosure to a functional computer.

I'd recommend doing this in another XP machine as well. I tried this in Vista and it took about 3 times as long to change ownership of the files as it did in XP.

As expected, I get access denied errors. I'm trying to get things out of the desktop and my documents areas, not the rest of the drive.

I'm also pretty sure that I set it as "Keep my files private" or whatever it asks when you add a password to the user. I don't think I encrypted it, though.

Taking ownership of the folders will fix the access errors.
