What the hell is vista doing?

I'm looking at disk usage per process right now and svchost.exe is using around 1.5 billion bytes per minutes (1.4GB/m) of traffic on the read side. Why the hell is it doing that? I disabled the file indexing, this is pissing me off.

It was scanning a vob file, but now it's looking at a folder of pictures. I am not a big fan of my computer deciding to snoop around the file system.

svchost.exe is a generic process that runs any of a large number of libraries. Without knowing which library that instance of svchost is running, there's no good way to figure out why it's thrashing your disk.

I have read about and experienced a major demand on ram from svchost.exe,
-was happening via a spyware infection. I would run a few antispyware scans/anti virus as well.
And mayhaps post a HiJack this log?

Well I hope I don't have something already. It's just a little annoying that a system process is accessing files that don't need to be.

I am not seeing anything in your log. Though I am not an expert in reading them.
I may have missed something. To me your looking clean :) You seeing anything?
It may be Vista/useless crap that is just being itself loi. You could always upgade to XP Pro or even Windows 2000 SP4 ...............
*Could be superfetch doing it's thing{masOn}* - that is always a possibility.

I agree, maybe you should upgrade to Windows XP but if you really want to keep Windows Vista, you could try upgrade to SP 1 which is should soon be available on Microsoft's homepage.

I believe it's been already leaked but to be on the safe side you probably should wait in till it's on Microsoft.com.

Dude the same thing happens to me while I'm playing TF2. It's horrible, it causes huge disk activity and make the game lag horribly for 2-3 minutes, at least once a night.

I have disabled search indexing, etc. It's really a piece of work.
