JRE Issues

Hi guys,

I am after some help here.

I am at work and I have the most locked down PC you can imagine (I cant even write to C:\). I need to use a down loadable exe file for work purposes which I should be able to do as I can save it in my own area and run it from there (It has no installation, reg modification etc). However this exe requires JRE V6 and my machine only has 1.4.2 installed. I really cant be bothered to try and explain to to the IT guys what this software is why I need it and then get them to authorise its use and upgrade my Java.

Is there anything that I can do to persuade them to update my java to the latest version with out telling them about this software.

I understand why they have the rules and regulations but I know the software is to be trusted and I know it wont cause a problem.

Can anyone make a suggestion?

Cheers

Rich

Really the only way to go about it is to get the authorization from your IT dept. If it's that locked down, you really don't have much choice, mate. :(

Speaking as an IT dept it pisses me off to no end when users try and be sneaky and get around things that we've set up. We put things in place for a reason, usually that's because of some 'sneaky' user that thought he knew what he was doing and broke it.

Generally (speaking for my dept) if a user comes to us with a legitimate need we will support it, and be happy to do it.
