Very short slowdown every hour.

So here's the deal. Every hour, at exactly the same minute (1:09, 2:09, 3:09, etc) my computer has a massive stutter for a half-second. What I notice the most is that the audio playing stutters once, and then everything is fine. If I reboot the computer, the exact minute might change, but the problem continues. It's not solely the audio though, the mouse won't move and nothing else works.

I had this problem with vista business 32bit, which I chalked up to vista being vista. I have since moved to xp 64bit. I have all the latest updates and drivers. The problem has not gone away

I thought it might be folding, but it occurs regardless of whether or not folding is running.

Here are my specs:
e2140@3.2GHz (8x400) 46ºC folding
2gb crucial ballistix 4-4-4 @ 800
8800gts 320
onboard sound

On intel sata controller:
Samsung 500 GB HDD (OS here, 355GB/465GB Free)
Seagate 120 GB HDD (backups, never accessed)

On other sata controller:
Seagate 160 GB HDD
Seagate 160 GB HDD

I've defragged the hdds, run error checking.

halp.

edit:

When this happens, I hear the hdd thrash, also.

Jesus, same with me, but it's not on the hour, it's often a lot more frequent. I've chalked it up to a dying hard drive, but I can't figure out which one it is, and that is bugging the ever-living hell out of me. Can you unplug a hard drive and see if it still happens? It kills me in TF2, especially when it happens every 5 or 7 minutes.

If you figure anything out, I'll be watching the thread.

Anybody remember the steps to turn it off, then, as a troubleshooting measure?

    indexing?

right click the drive in my computer, select properties, uncheck "index this drive"

i dont know if i recommend this though.
