The best app for burning CD/DVDs?

Hi All,

For the last couple of years, I've been using an trimmed down version of Nero that came included with my Pioneer DVD drive. I recently formatted my machine and installed Vista. I can't seem to find that nero disc anywhere, so I'm without any burning software.

My needs are pretty simple--burning ISOs, rewritable discs, etc. Nothing too complex, but I'd like some advanced capability should the need arise. I know Nero used to be the most highly regarded for this, but Nero Ultra is pretty costly.

Any recommendations?

Nero Ultra is the best app to give you all possible features.

If you want free then CDBurnerXP works well, but I don't know if it's compatible with Vista.

For burning ISOs, ImgBurn hasn't failed me yet. It's a simple lightweight program that basically does what you want without question. As far as advanced features, there's a big menu and I've found it's pretty configurable, but I haven't found a need yet to really take a good look at it. Also it's completely free.

    Linkage.

I find Nero to be the best all-around application unless I'm making images of my discs. Then I use Alcohol 120%. Virtual drives and disc images rock for installing/playing games!

Thanks for the suggestions all. I may try some of the freeware suggestions and see if they suit my needs. I also stumbled across a lightweight open source app called InfraRecorder that I think I'll try: http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/

I just don't think that the $80 of Nero Ultra is justified with the simple tasks I'll be doing with it.

I've had good luck with the CDBurnerXP program that kryyst linked. IIRC, it was Vista compatible.

I gave InfraRecorder a try, and it did the trick nicely. Seems to have all the functionality I need.

    Thanks for the input, all.

Hmm $80...its been awhile since I've bought a burner but does Nero still come with burners these days? I may not be Nero Ultra but it might just burn ISO's and data. Plus it would only be $30 and a burner of sorts. Reminds me...I still need a DL burner...

I got Nero with my Lite-on DVD burner about 2 years ago. I doubt that it has changed.
