laptop wireless issue

My problem is that in order to connect to a wireless network I have to enable wireless every time I boot my laptop. If I simply go Connect to.. no networks appear and the only way I can think to get around it is to go to Diagnose problem, which then gives me the option to Enable wireless. For this reason I can't have a wireless network automatically connect at startup because my wireless is always turned off.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I cannot find anywhere the option to have wireless always on. There is a switch on the front of the laptop which is always in the on position. Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.

The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo xa 1526 and I'm running Vista home premium.

Many thanks.

Are you using a 3rd party wireless software or the wireless zero config?

If your using a 3rd party depending which one it is there should be an option somewhere to stay connected. If using the wireless zero config check to see that the Wireless zero config service (start | run | services.msc) is set to automatic and not manual.
