Hi Guys, i hope you can help me, my problem is as follows.

My PC has become infected with a virus. I always run mcafee security on my pc which has been ok in the past. i run windows vista on a modern laptop. 5 days ago my problems began. when i try to open any files it attempts to open them but the desktop then clears all the icons the window closes and the file fails to open.i have gone through the steps prior to posting and virus' have been found, i tried to save the kapersky file to desktop but it changed my location to temp internet files (for safety it said) when i restarted the pc in safe mode (to allow me to open files) this location was blank, no files had been saved there. the panda activscan will not open when i click the 'scan pc now, button. i have saved the hijacjthis file as a txt file and will try to attach to my thread.

any idea's guys. if not i have the orig vista disk which came with the pc would it be better to wipe the disk and restart afresh? if so could you direct me to a relavent thread with instructions for this.

Please do a system scan with HijackThis, put a check next to these entries:

After that, close all windows other than HijackThis (including this one), and click Fix Checked.

OK the prompt and close Hijackthis.

Step 2:

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

• Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
• At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
• Then click Finish.
• If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
• Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
• When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
• Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a convenient location.
• Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.

Thanks for the help. since i posted my 1st question i believe i may have sorted out the worst of the virus' damage by re-installing vista. the pc seems to be acting normal but for some reason mcafee is not protecting my files and emails, i've tried to update from their website but to no avail. i can now attach the files you requested and i have scanned with kaspersky and attached this also.

i have done a new hijackthis check and none of the files you request i check are now listed (when i had the problem the files Run: [MSServer] rundll32.exe C:\Users\woody\AppData\Local\Temp\pmkjh.dll,#1
and
Run: [MS Juan] rundll32 "C:\Users\woody\AppData\Local\Temp\bebvyjpe.dl l
were failing to run on startup and showing in an error box, this is no longer happening.

scans attached below. any idea's on why mcafee is acting up looking at the scans?

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

• Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
• From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
• Click once on the Security tab
• Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
• Click once on the Custom Level button.
• Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
• Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
• Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
• Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
• Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
• Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
• When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
• If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
• Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

• Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
• Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
• Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

• Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

• MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
