cant download or install adobe flash player

edited May 2009 in Internet & Media
I tried to view a video on youtube but instead I was prompted to update to the latest adobe flash player. Clicking the install now button simply refreshes the page, it doesnt download or install the new player. After browsing the adobe support site, I uninstalled the old player, even tried the sublnacl tool, yet no results.
My settings allow active x prompts, java is enabled to medium safety. I'm using xp home, IE 6

Try removing flash player (if any exist in Add/Remove programs). Instead of going to youtube first go to the adobe site.

See if it'll install from here.

thanks for your reply. I have everything working now. Apparently, disabling my firewall and turning off the pop up blocker allowed me to download. I dont know for sure because I had taken those steps earlier, along with using the adobe uninstall tool and the microsoft sublnacl download as well.
My computer must have been tempermental.
