Boot problems

edited March 2008 in Hardware
I have a gateway tablet computer running Vista.

I got an error saying that Startup Repair was unable to fix it. The root cause listed is No OS files detected.

I tried using WinRE and rebuilt the MBR and Boot files, no help.

I tried to rebuild the BCD only to have it tell me there are zero installations of Vista.

There are no system restores (unfortunately)

The specific error:

Root cause found:
No OS files found on disk.

Repair action: Partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490
Time taken = 921ms

Any Ideas?

hit up CMOS and see if its actually being told to boot from location X?

Maybe reseting your BIOS would work...

Because it is trying to do partition table repairs, that was the step I was going to take.

However I only have a desktop available.

I don't expect a problem but I wanted to ask anyway, installing a SATA laptop drive into a desktop, just hook it up with sata (and power?) and go, right? Should come on as a second hd and then I can diagnose it.
