WinXP + DFI NFii = System Crash

edited December 2003 in Hardware
I've just read CrazyJoe's post about his problems concerning his DFI NFii motherboard. And I have a similar problem.

This is all my major hardware.

AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Corsair Twinx 512 MB PC3200
DFI NFii Motherboard
GeForceFX 5200 Ultra
Wester Digital 40 GB WD400JB

Ok my problems is similar to CrazyJoe's, but instead of crashing after an hour of uptime my computer crashes after about 5 minutes of uptime.:banghead:

Now I'm pretty sure the problem is not memory, cause i've run win98 on it, in the past, and had no problems. I think the problem lies in system stability. But I'm not sure. Also, I can boot into safe mode, and the system will not crash at all.

As I'm writing this, I'm doing a fresh install of WinXP, so I have a fresh drawing board as it were, to try and solve this problem. Also I'm using my own home brewed copy of XP (SP1a Integrated), just so everyone knows all the details.

Hope this help so you can help me. lol

Please post an update after your XP install, plus add in details of what order you install the chipset/WinUpdate/DX9/Sound/Video drivers in. Hint, what I just wrote *should* be the best order.

Ok, I've got windows/drivers/dx9a, and everything is working great, hasn't crashed yet. Only thing is my system is underclocked. I figure it was too unstable at first, which is strange, cause win98 ran fine. :banghead: Just to be sure I ran 3DMark2001 SE, to if the system was stable (probably shoulda run Sandra, but oh-well). Right now the system is clocked at 1.3 Ghz(133x10.5), instead of 1.9(166x11.5)

Anywho, things are working ok, and I'll try to steadily raise the clock/fsb speed, so as not to crash the system.

One quick question about overclocking (and I know this should go in the overclocking section), will raising the voltage on the cpu and/or ram increase stability?

    Thanx
