Replaced corrupted registry hive, but now a lot of data is missing

edited March 2008 in Science & Tech
I just replace my registry hive XP Pro using recovery console, but I'm now missing a lot of data. It only has the bare applications, all my files aren't showing up, and some other stuff seems weird (I only have 2 screen resolutions possible, etc). I'm running the PC Recovery tool right now (Its a OEM version of Windows, so I guess this is running from the HP_Recovery partition.

How do I go about restoring my data, or is it gone?

If you replaced your hives with the backups Windows XP creates, typically only at first install, anything in the registry (Account settings, primarily) is gone. All things stored on the HD, such as documents, pictures, movies, etc. will still be there.

Data files should be OK but you may need to reinstall drivers hence the problem with your screen res etc.
The disks that came with your PC should have the drivers on it (utilities disk). If not you may need to search for them - let us know if you need help with driver installation.......:)
