How to swap from ATI to nVidia, the HARD way!

This is from a 98 SE install, ending up without a reload.

I had put a Radeon that Leonardo sold me in the box, then DX9 upgraded it.

I could not pull the DX9, MS says uninstallable, but DX CAN be overwritten with DX8.1.

If one does not forget to reboot after changing the adapter to Standard PCI AND one does not get flustered and then find the ATI Control Panel will not uninstall. From there on out, error cascade after error cascade. RAM is good, NAV decided it had too littel RAM to run on reboot, disabled the thing. Closed FAH and MBM5.

10 reboots later, ran the Norton Util Windoctor, cleaned up a bunch of stuff and then manually unloaded every ATI thing by dumping\deleting, ran winDoctor again, let it unregister ATI's activeX stuff, rebooted. Reran installer from CD, it took 2 hours for one simple swap, NAV will be history tomorrow when my Trend Micro disk arrives.

Folding up and running, virus scan says clean, but why NAV thought 300+ free meg was not enough to run in when ZERO file system errors, no idea. Dumping NAV, keeping utils and cleansweep.

The SLK-900A is neat, stuck a Panaflo High volume fan on it and it is running the CPU about 6 C cooler even before the Ceramique cures. svc sent out three YS-Tech variable speed fans, three pin fans to keep my BIOS happy as it does not like no sense wire and the Panaflo has none. MBM 5 is running fine also, now. I can no longer get Panaflo three pin fans.

Sorry about the variation from Windows, but Windows does not like a DX rollback AND a video card swap in one fell swoop, but did both at once-- vid card swap and CPU HS install so I figured I would toss the results in for both.

John-- who should cross the 7K FAH points boundary tomorrow, if no more WUs get stuck for most of a day before I get them sent while upgrading driver things, and whose 98 SE is virgus intactus except for NAV which I think got corrupted somehow. Oh, had to slow down the GF4 refresh rate to match my LCD panel also.

Don't have an SLK-900A, but I do have the SLK-900U and I can vouch that it is a very neat HS. :)
