Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested operation!!

Right, pretty annoying this, an XP machine (XP SP2) - half decent PC with over 1gb ram, running next to nothing (cpu usage 8%, memory also low)

The error is when the person tries to access a network drive, I tried and it even happens in cmd prompt - literally just u: (where u is the drive letter) produces the error:

Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested operation

The person tried rebooting, and still the error persists, apparently this happens on and off (occasionally) and usually a reboot sorts it - alas, this time it hasn't - any ideas? - I did a quick google and it seemed to only bring up results connected to hibernation - something she is not using.

delete any drive mappings on that machine reboot it. Then remap the drives.

The other possibility you may need to check is on the computer with the share. Is it limited to how many machines can attach to it at once? Granted that's not the usual message you'll see being sent when trying to map to a share that's full, but it doesn't mean it couldn't be.

    Hi Kryyst,

I can defo rule out the latter of your questions - the file shares are on a server running sbs2003 and there are around 35 machines here, so that isn't an issue.

Ill see what happens when I delete the drive mappings, I did try to add new mappings and the same error occured... Ill report back shortly!

I just went over, and it had been working on and off this morning - she closed outlook and it worked and then opened outlook, however, when I was there it was playing up again!

Taking your advice I deleted the mappings and got her to reboot, on reboot I added the mappings and all seemed to be working fine - I did some funky stuff in Excel with SQL connections and vlookups to generally stress the PC out a bit and get the cpu usage nice and high, with outlook open, and it still worked.

Grr - I hate intermittent problems - I bet the bugger breaks in a few days time for seemingly no reason!!

I generally just chalk up intermittent problems to User error and then go on about my day and pretend nothing happened :)
