I found this http://www.techmixer.com/download-directx-10-for-windows-xp/
I don't like fiddling in my system files unless I trust the source.
So I'm putting this to you guys who for some reason like playing in
your system files. I want to know will this work?

I haven't heard of getting Dx10 to work in XP yet...

And the link at the bottom to "get DirectX10 for XP" takes you to the 9.0c download page (useless).

I think the article is just there to get hits/make them money.

Because you need to have the latest DX9C installed for the DX10 to patch.

Other than making objects shiny in different places, I haven't noticed a difference between DX9 & Dx10 yet.

That is likely true, but what I'm intending to say is that the link itself (by its own description on that page) only handles 9.0c and older directx versions, and does not update you to Dx10. The 'hack' for Dx10 is not refined, it's still in release candidate status and I don't believe it's Microsoft certified/approved (?).

I'd like to know more but there's isn't much from M$ regarding this future release. Until it's ready through their downloads page I'm skeptical.

It's an open-source project to reverse engineer and bring DX10 to Xp. It's definitely not endorsed by MS, and DX10 will never come to XP without the project.

So this could work?, but if there's no real difference
    is it worth it?

There's merit to it. Games like Crysis just check for the presence of DX10 at install time. They don't care what your OS is. Having this would allow you to atleast make a go of it.

Who knows how well it works.

That's what I was thinking was going on (with only nominal effort actually spent looking into it). Some of these types of projects can actually get to completion before getting legally squashed (like Creative recently did to a driver modder). I hope this one does, the fact Dx10 was used as leverage by M$ to increase Vista sales is bull**** IMHO.

So what kind of effect will this have on your PC? Less performance for extra shiny?
