Programs crashing, can't go in safe mode

For some reason whenever I use Flash now either flash 8 or flash cs3 it jus crashes and comes up with one of those error reports, any idea how to fix this I need to use it soon.
I've been using it for years without any problems.
I've tried re-installing and I did a virus scan.
I can't reboot my computer in safe mode because when i press f8 and select safe mode I first get like a lot of directory names lik c:/sumthin sumthing
for like 2 seconds then the computer just restarts like a power failure or something.

    Safe mode normally does show all those files being loaded, that's normal it's the stuff the splash screen hides. If you can't boot into safe mode though. I suggest you do a repair install.

    Ive now done a repair install, but the problems still persist

    a system restore did the job
