Maxtor HD problem HELP!!

Posting this for a friend. His maxtor has dropped a few folders containing important data, and he wants to maybe recover it, if thats possible.

    have you run windows file recovery tools first? Are you sure it's the drive? Or maybe just some corrupt files?

    go to a command prompt and type:

    chkdsk /r x:

    (x: being the drive letter of the drive with lost folders)

    You may have to reboot to get the chkdsk to run.
