DVD-RW Problem

Ok I have a

Plextor DVD-RW drive that worked just fine for about 5-6 months. I had to get a new motherboard and processor and memory for this GFX card I won from a contest. I plugged my DVD-RW drive back into my computer and now It can write DVDs and CDs but it can't read them.

I have the specifics at home (im at school atm) and I'll list them when I get the chance.

I have all the lastest firmware also.

If anyone knows how to fix this or get around it, please let me know!

Sorry I read your initial post wrong. I just want to clarify this you can write to discs with your drive, but you can't read from them?

That doesn't make any sense because the computer would have to be able to read the disc to detect that it's blank.

Are the discs audio/video? Can you explore the contents of the discs through windows explorer?

ya i can see them through explorer but i cant like play a disc

    for example:

i can see the contents on my Halo CE disc but I cant actually play the game cuz you have to read the disc

So you put the disc in the drive. You can double click on the disc and see it. You can open up directories on the disk and look at them. FYI your computer can read the disc.

Are you perhaps just meaning that when you put the disc in the drive it's not auto-playing? If so you can re-enable autoplay, from the device manager and your drive.

Or not bother with auto play just browse the disk, find the executable program and double click on it.

You know for the $40 it costs to replace the drive - replace the drive.
