I HAVE BEEN INVADED...help!!

:DHi All,
I guess I have become a vicitm of the spyware/malware bug. I have tried to delete what I could but have had no luck. I am getting popups about my pc being affected, and my desktop background has changed and I cannot change it. Also, when I click on a link in google it shoots it to some spyware site.

I am hoping someone can help me.

Thanks all,
Mike

    Hello and welcome to Icrontic.

    Your computer is heavily infected!

Do you use P2P or torrent softwares? Crack sites?
I guess there might be the reason for your malware problem, am I right?
  • edited April 2008
LOL.. I figured it was. What a nightmare. I do use limewire.
Anyway I can get out of this :). I have tried numerous things and nothing has worked. I also keep getting a wowfx.dll error message which I am sure is malware. This list of problems just keeps on going.

Thanks for your efforts. I appreciate it.

    Mike

So you've infected your computer and are now asking our help to clean up that mess? That doesn't sound right. Why don't you just reinstall your system? I'd like to help you if I could be sure I'm not wasting my precious time with this. Please let me know what you think.

Yes you are right. I messed up and now I am asking for help. :) I have atempted to reinstall windows with my dell xp disk but it says that I cannot install xp because I have a newer version already installed.

Believe me...I much rather reinsall everything.

    Thanks for the help,
    Mike

Here's the deal -- I'll help you to get your system clean, and you'll be more careful with your computer, and specifically with P2P softwares, cracks etc. :) OK?

Please don't use any P2P or torrent programs until your computer is cleaned.

I'd like you to read the Guidelines for P2P Programs

References for the risk of these programs can be found in these links: ==================================================

At first, I need to see a complete HijackThis log. Please post it here.

    :):)

I will not be using any programs like that again. That I promise. Below is a logfile. Thanks again for your help.

By the way, if you can tell me how I can reboot my computer with my dell cd I can do that instead. Whichever is easier is fine with me. I have all the software cd's I need to reload once I reboot windows xp.

    Either way...THANKS AGAIN!!!

Hi, can't you use normal mode? If you can, please run HijackThis always there.

    (1)

Please download SDFix and ComboFix to your desktop

    (2)

    Run SDFix in Safe Mode

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log
    (3)

Run ComboFix in Normal Mode (if possible)
    • Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    • When finished, it will produce a report for you.
    • Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review.
    (4)

Please post the contents of the SDFix log, ComboFix log, along with a fresh HijackThis log.
