Same Disk Assigned Two Drive Letters

edited April 2008 in Hardware
I have four drives set up in two separate RAID 0 arrays. 4 70gb disks = 2
140gb RAID 0 discs. The drives were set up properly and had no issues but
now the two RAID drives show up in My Computer with separate drive letters AND there are also two separate drive letters being assigned to one of the single 70gb discs on each array. Basically My Computer looks like this:

C:
Local Disk D: (a 70gb drive that is only one of the striped disks)
Local Disk E: (a 70gb drive that is from the other array)
Local Disk I: (140gb array)
Local Disk J: (the other 140gb array)

I have been into the management console and have tried everything including
converting to basic disks, back to dynamic disks, uninstalling the drives,
turning the power off, disconnecting the drives, powering back on and off and
on after reconnecting the drives. No matter what I do the D: and E: drives
continue reappearing. They even appear if the RAID drives are not configured
in the management console.

Is there a way to get rid of these random drive letter assignments? Using
TweakUI to hide them isn't an option either as I am full of drive letter
assignments and need to free these two up for new drives.

Please help and let me know if you need any more information.

Thanks

That honestly makes no sense and is fairly close to impossible. Are you sure you do not have other 70GB drives connected to the system?

What raid controller are they connected to?

Yeah, close to impossible says it.

The computer is an Avid certified system with 2 LSI Logic Ultra320 SCSI Adapters. I am positive that there are no other 70gb drives attached anywhere to the system. It's definitely something I've never seen before. The machine went through a drive relettering process and it almost seems like the computer has left letters assigned to the drives that should no longer be assigned to them.

Some of the really weird things that happen. I can write files to any of the four drives that show in My Computer, but they don't duplicate onto the other drive that it should be linked to. I'm confusing myself here.

I don't need anything off of these drives and am ok with a complete reinitialization of them if that is what it takes to fix them, but so far nothing has worked.
