Well I have games that use discs for example Diablo, Starcraft, or Battlefield 2142. ( I own these games)

Is it possible to somehow make a image file or .bin then use daemon tools to mount the image?

Or if someone knows how to do this, please elaborate.

Its a bit of a Hassle to get the disc for every single other game, so wondering if I can make it a bit easier.

Daemon tools will make an ISO, I think...then allow you to mount that ISO on a "Virtual" DVD Drive.

If not, then Alcohol 120 will make an ISO and so will WinISO.

I love me some Alcohol 120%. Been using it for a few years now and it's worth every penny (or whatever your local currency is).

So you insert the disc you want an iso from and use alcohol program?

    I'll try to find it.

Will MagicISO or PowerISO do the trick?

Yes, they should...never used them, but it sounds like they will make an ISO from a disc.

You can make an iso of the games. However when it comes to running those games the iso won't cut it when it checks to see if you have the disk in for most games. It'll only allow you to install, not play.

If you want to play it you have to find a no-cd crack for the game.

Hmm ok. So why does it need the cd because what the heck does a No-cd crack do to fool it that theres no cd. And that the CD wasn't even needed in the first place? Why is it in there...

    Kinda annoys me

Ok, that's called copy protection. You're copying the disk so the protection will prevent that. You need exe patches. No one here will condone this; and neither will I. Expect a Pm.

I disagree. I use Alcohol 120% to create ISOs AND to play the games using the virtual drive. Copy protection doesn't matter mostly. The only game I have issues with right now is Warhammer 40K Soulstorm. It'll probably be fixed with the next 120% update.

I've had problems installing Red Alert 2/Yuri using alcohol, and I believe there are some that won't play, but will install. There are also some new games that prevent their use COMPLETELY with just the presence of a virtual drive on your computer, and I think even if you uninstall that program and virtual drive. It depends on the copy protection of the game. Many still work just fine. Occasionally, if you have an OLD game, the game must be mounted on the lowest letter virtual drive to work, like for a windows 95 game. I have not used virtual drives for a while so I'm a little out of it.

While I think it is totally lame for games to require a CD as well(becuase I always LOOSE THEM) it's not exactly legal to use no-cd cracks and all that.

Try finding games as downloadables instead like on steam or direct2drive.

Making an ISO of a game CD that you own, is not circumventing any copy protection. You may not be able to make the ISO because of copy proection, but you are not circumventing anything.

If you can't make the ISO because of protection, and you find means to make it anyhow, that is illegal. If you make the ISO and then use a CD crack to run the game, that is also illegal.

You can disagree all you want. But the fact remains that most newer games won't run using an iso image as a cd check. That's what copy protection is for. Older game, weren't so smart.

The only law I've ever heard of is the act of circumventing copy protection for the use of illegal reproduction. Personal use is covered in fair use.

Strange. All of my games (new and old) work except for Warhammer 40K Soulstorm. I think there's a workaround for it with Alcohol though.

I'm not saying it will work 100% with everything. But I am saying it works with the vast majority of games out there. It's mostly a matter of finding out the copy protection method and setting Alcohol correctly.

What games don't work for you?
