Beginning Strategies...

edited April 2008 in Gaming
Now that this server is going to end, I was thinking that now may be an appropriate time to discuss the next server. I have not heard for certain who is coming and who is retiring, though I hope the first list is much, much longer.
Maybe we can even discuss some beginning strategies? I assume your first village on a new server amongst others who are also just starting is very unique, so it may require unique strategy. Discuss! :-P

    Im in. Teuton i think.

I'm thinking maybe Teutons as well. It seems to be the race that really shines in the end game. Though I will miss terribly the ability to build two things at once.

I'm pretty sure Thegr81 is in for round 2 as well, but I'm not sure. Fate have you decided on teutons again or roman?

when you started this server, you had to build defensively with crannies, because there were already large players ready to farm you.

at restart, the aim is to build offensively, people get as many troops as fast as possible to stop other players doing the same to you. that's why i'm going teuton.

and your village is always surrounded by people who sign up around the same time as you, and loads may be starting for the first time.
i don't plan to pre-register as this will place me with previous giants as neighbours, and if the restart isn't at an earlier time, i'm going to sign up after a one-week holiday in june (16th-23rd i think)
i think that if it starts near the 1st, i'll have 2 weeks, if i'm alive i'll probably have 2 villages, and will get a sitter. if it is later, i don't want a sitter placing the ground-work of my account...

so can you transfer you villages to the next round?

    no.
    its all restarted from scratch.

do you really want the people with 50 huge villages KEEPING those?
and the whole point of ending the game and restarting is to stop people getting too big, which would stop new players from developing

yeah sorry i was getting confused

i think at the beginning if we are close together the romans pay resources to the teutons who build armies to protect the romans developing their economy's.

smart, but everyone should still make an army of their own. even if its praetorians as a defensive army.

i think at restart you'll find a lot of newbies who go as romans and sim it, perfect farm material.

Haha that would work perfectly in a best case scenario, when we all start together in a nice neat little niche in a private corner of the world. But in reality we will likely start in all different places, and will have to largely fend for ourselves at first. Every race is capable of doing this one way or another, but no one will be able to focus entirely on economics and "feed" an offensive player. It would be nice though. hehe.

as long as we all press NorthWest we'll be kinda close to one another, and if we get the {IC} alliance running as fast as possible, we'll be stronger than most players.
  • edited April 2008
I agree 100%. This alliance, with these people, has a huge advantage over a lot of people as it is. Give us a chance to start on a level playing field, and we will excel.

on server uk5 im in an alliance 6th best in the game there i only 7people in it!!

well, server 5 is a slow-speed server, a lot less interesting to most people
you get more 'experts' on speed servers.

Yeah I'm sticking with the teutons. Someone made an interesting point in an earlier thread that I was looking past. The teuton army is very flexible and I don't want to give that up.

I was looking at things the wrong way. I was thinking things like "Man, the teuton scouts are the only non-mounted scouts so they move slow." when I should have been thinking "Teuton scouts are the only ones that don't cost 2 wheat/hr to feed." That's pretty much the case with all our troops. Even the elite cavalry cost 3 wheat/hr to feed, compared to 4 for the caesaris. Most teuton units are cheaper to produce as well.

also the reasoning behind me wanting to go Teuton, I'm sick of such expensive armies :p

im going roman im gonna be uber defensive.
  • edited April 2008
I believe Teutons are really geared for the end game player to be honest.

im gonna find a nice 15c with 3x50% oases.
  • edited April 2008
Well if there is one thing I've learned from reading these forums, you gotta have at least 3 well situated villages to fund a 15c comfortably.

Dionysus is a 15-cropper and has 2 50% oasis and one 25% oasis. THAT is some serious wheat production!!!

One 9c can do it if you have enough gold to NPC trade and there are enough oasis's to go around.

make it capital and pay for 25% wheat increase... and you could store a fair few troops after a while...
