NF7-S setup steps for windows
what is your step by step for installing windows 2000/XP and all drivers necessary on the NF7-S motherboard. No need to be specific about installing windows except when it concerns drivers.
sidenote: do I need to install the detonator drivers if installing the 3.13 chipset drivers? I seem to be able to play games after installing the chipset drivers only.
Here's what I usually do:
After putting together the computer I begin installing windows from the cd. Have the SATA drivers on the floppy ready for raid installs. Once windows is done I install just the ethernet drivers from the abit cd and then do windows update. After all that I get the motherboard/chipset driver package ( I used 3.13 last time) and install that so all the onboard stuff is good to go. At this point the machine is ready to use except for the onboard usb 2.0 which even after windows update are not installed. The files are already there but I just have to choose update driver and browse to C:/winnt/..... to manually install them. Besides antivirus software and other things like winrar, winamp, and Folding
I feel the machine is completely done. Did I miss anything except for the sidenote above?

2. DX 9B. Reboot
3. Video. Reboot.
4. Service pack. Reboot.
5. All remaining patches.

3. All other drivers if necessary (so every device is working).
4. Service Pack
5. Windows Media Player 9 (I mention this because I always install it from a hard copy)
6. Any remaining critical updates
Which I guess is very similar to how Thraxy boy does it.:D
I may also point out that, there are many perfectly fine ways to to do it. For example something has to be said for installing the service pack first, because some components of the forceware require it to properly install. Doing that will just save you having to go back and install remaining bits after.
