Ubuntu Display Issue in Virtual PC 2007

edited May 2008 in Science & Tech
I'm running Virtual PC 2007 on Vista Ultimate... installed Windows Server 2003 which runs fine, when i try to install Ubuntu 7.10 the console has a weird display as if the Video Card has problem or something... i can't see the icons pass the installation start up options

I'm using a Asus G1S with Geforce 8600M GT video

One thing you could try is using the new distro of Ubuntu 8.04 and see if that helps any

The other thing is using the nvidia restricted drivers some times the vesa drivers behave weird in different situations.

click System -> Administration -> Restricted Driver Manager (7.10) or Hardware Drivers (8.04)

Make sure that you check the box next to the nvidia drivers and set them active

After the drivers install you will be prompted to restart.

Once the system has restarted open up a terminal and type the following command

    sudo displayconfig-gtk

This will open the Screens and Graphics Preferences

Set the resolution to the one you prefer for screen one.

Go to the Graphics Card tab and make sure that the drop down for Drivers is set to nvidia. To change it click the driver name and next to Choose driver by name: select the nvidia driver from the list.

    Then press ok.

If that doesn't work try using the vmware I have never tested this driver before but in your situation it sounds promising if all else fails

Good luck and let me know if that helps
